NESICT

NESICT (Networks, Economic and Social Interaction and Cultural Transfer in Northern Europe) is a research cooperation of scientists from five countries (France, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Sweden).

The cooperation emerged from the interdisciplinary conference "Die Verflechtung einer Region: Netzwerke, Technik- und Kulturtransfer im neuzeitlichen Nordeuropa", which took place from 23rd to 25th of June 2006 and the workshop "Interplay of Networks, Social Interaction and Cultural Transfer" which took place from 23rd to 25th of March 2007 at the Institut für Geschichte der Universität Oldenburg.

NESICT (Networks, Economic and Social Interaction and Cultural Transfer) defines itself as an umbrella for a range of research projects and approaches that touch upon questions of  the interplay of economic and social history, trading networks and cultural transfer. In spite of the wide range of possible approaches, methods and research interests there is a mutual interest in understanding how migration, trade, networks and social interaction were interrelated in early modern Northern Europe and how this interrelationship inspired and facilitated cultural transfer – through agency and through the interaction of people across borders in an increasingly global world and consumer society.
